If I could play the fiddle, I’d play it every day. Everyone’d be happy, And our smiles always stay
Oh, to be a pirate It is the life for me Living for each moment Yes, living on the sea —jsm (This post inspired by another’s post: http://roughwaterjohn.wordpress.com/2011/02/26/pirate-training/; go check him out.)

I’ve never had a desire in life to disappear or start over or anything quite so dramatic (quite the opposite, really), but sometimes I wish I had an outlet where I could simply say whatever I want to say without anyone’s preconceptions or expectations getting in the way of whatever that might be—that is, I could speak it and not worry about offending or being rebuked by those who...
Fruits, Roots, & Vegetables: A Brief Allegory
The field was supposed to bring forth a mighty tree. Unmovable. Steadfast. Fruitful. It would yield a miracle harvest. Bring sustenance to the hungry as it taps the nearby rushing, crashing, living river. But a survey reveals… a field of vegetables. Vegetables everywhere. They cover the ground and they do nothing. Above, they are starch. Uniform. Rows, columns. Though they are filling, they are...

Poetry reading tonight @ 7!
Participating in an open poetry reading tonight and I look forward with delight, knowing that My words will not just be my own My words will be unowned by one but they will be yours too I await hearing your voices and your words As they blend with mine And we will craft a story A story with known archetypes But an as yet unknown plot The stage is set And our tongues and our ears begin a...
As with the last post (which is temporarily hidden, but don’t worry, it will be back soon), I’m again posting a reading of a poem. I hope you’ll enjoy it. It’s part self-criticism, part making crappy ideas work for me. It’s a reflection of frustration with being unable to come up with unoriginal thoughts and then kind of saying, well, if that’s all I’ve...
I’m trying to stop treating my poetry with such a heavy bias on the written part and place more emphasis on the sound when read or spoken aloud. I’ve been writing poetry for years, but intermittently. But I’m trying to take it a little more seriously and trying to own my own style. Here’s a poem I wrote yesterday (first draft on pen and paper even, which was refreshing...

thatonehelloworldguy: For example, you buy an album by your favorite artist on iTunes. You find the album to be so freaking awesome that you bought it on vinyl as well. I’m not sure why I follow so many feminists on Tumblr. Perhaps I should find a good old-fashioned misogynist to balance it out. But then again, the feminists all disagree with each other, so maybe they cancel each other out? I’m thankful for women, but I’m glad to be a dude.

I figure if I post something sappy enough, I’ll get reblogged. Either sappy or ironic. Tumblr loves that stuff, right? Gag me.

Oh well, whatever, nevermind
I had more fun last night than I had any right to, I believe. Here’s to downtown Lynchburg, and more especially Rivermont Pizza. Lynchburg, I won’t be yours forever, but we can have some fun while it lasts. It smelled a lot like teen spirit. The only things missing were an albino and a mosquito. I felt stupid and contagious. Yeah, hey, yay. Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile.
